  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 package frozen puff pastry (17.25 ounces)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons caramel sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apple filling by peeling and dicing apples. Mix with lemon juice and cook with butter and sugars for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Thaw puff pastry and roll it out to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into squares (4×4 inches).
  3. Spoon apple mixture onto half of each pastry square and fold over to form triangles. Seal edges with a fork.
  4. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and brush turnovers with an egg wash made from whisked egg and water.
  5. Bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown, then drizzle with glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
