  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 0.25 cup minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 slices toasted bread, crumbled
  • 7 buttery round crackers, crushed
  • 3.5 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce (divided)
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sauté minced onion and garlic in butter until translucent; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed onion and garlic, crumbled bread, crushed crackers, egg, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, and half of the tomato sauce; mix well.
  4. Gradually add milk until the mixture is moist but not soggy.
  5. Transfer to a loaf pan and bake uncovered for 40 minutes; then increase the temperature to 400°F (200°C) and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  6. Mix remaining tomato sauce with ketchup and spread over the top; bake for another 10 minutes.
  7. Let cool slightly before slicing and serve warm.
