  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives
  • 1 tbsp each chopped fresh thyme, rosemary, and sage
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Add fresh herbs and shredded cheddar cheese to the dry mixture. Pour in buttermilk and stir until combined.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it into a ball. Flatten into a circle about 7 inches wide.
  4. Place on a floured baking sheet and score a cross on top with a sharp knife.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then lower the temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for another 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Cool wrapped in a tea towel before slicing.
