  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted & divided
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dark cocoa powder
  • Mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease an 8×8 pan with butter.
  2. Mix together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl for the filling.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and mini chocolate chips. Create a well in the center and add buttermilk and 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, then shape it into a rectangle.
  5. Spread remaining melted butter over the dough and sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  6. Roll up tightly from one short side into a log shape and slice into nine equal pieces.
  7. Place slices in the prepared pan; drizzle with remaining melted butter before baking for about 20-22 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly while preparing the frosting by mixing cream cheese with heavy cream, powdered sugar, and cocoa until smooth.
  9. Frost each roll generously before serving.
