  • 1 medium head of cauliflower
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari)
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water (or plant-based milk)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (or maple syrup)
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • Optional: Zest of 1 orange

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Toss the cauliflower florets with olive oil in a bowl.
  3. In another bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Gradually add water or plant-based milk until smooth.
  4. Dip each floret into the batter until coated and arrange them on the baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through for even crispiness.
  6. While baking, heat sesame oil in a saucepan and sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant. Stir in orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and optional zest.
  7. Add cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce until glossy.
  8. Toss baked cauliflower with the orange sauce and serve immediately.
