  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak (thinly sliced)
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 onion (sliced)
  • 1 bell pepper (sliced)
  • 12 red chilies (sliced, optional for extra heat)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef thinly against the grain.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. Add egg and water; whisk until smooth.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Coat beef strips in batter and fry in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  4. In the same wok, heat sesame oil and sauté garlic, ginger, onion, and bell pepper for about 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in soy sauce, chili sauce, and sugar; simmer for 2 minutes.
  6. Add crispy beef to the sauce mixture; toss to coat evenly and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Serve immediately garnished with green onions.
