  • 1 large egg (cold)

  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda. Cut in cold butter until crumbly; stir in optional raisins.
  3. In another cup, whisk buttermilk and egg until combined. Add to dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined.
  4. Shape dough into a round loaf on a floured surface; place in the skillet.
  5. Score an 'X' on top of the loaf and bake for about 50-55 minutes until golden and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  6. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
