  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
  • 12 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy; add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 22–25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. For the glaze, melt butter until golden brown; whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste. Thin with milk if necessary.
  7. Pour glaze over cooled bars and let set before slicing.
