Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb skinless boneless chicken thighs
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 2 tbsp white vinegar (or rice vinegar / apple cider vinegar)
  • 6 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1/4 tsp ginger powder (or grated ginger)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (or potato starch / tapioca starch)
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes (optional)
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil (or any neutral oil)
  • 1/2 green onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp orange zest (grated)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (toasted)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together orange juice, vinegar, brown sugar, soy sauce, minced garlic, ginger powder, and cornstarch until smooth to make the sauce.
  2. Cut the chicken thighs into 1.5-inch cubes without drying them. Toss the chicken in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat and fry the chicken in batches for about 6-8 minutes until golden and crispy.
  4. Remove fried chicken to drain on paper towels or a wire rack.
  5. Pour the prepared sauce into the same pan and simmer for about 1 minute until thickened.
  6. Return the fried chicken to the pan, tossing gently to coat with sauce.
  7. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
