Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 small onion (finely grated)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking and gravy)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk; let sit for a few minutes. Mix in ground beef, grated onion, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter). Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat and cook meatballs until browned on all sides.
  3. Remove meatballs and set aside. In the same skillet, melt more butter and whisk in flour to create a roux. Gradually add beef broth while stirring until thickened. Stir in heavy cream and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Return meatballs to the gravy and let simmer for a few minutes before serving hot over mashed potatoes or with preferred sides.
