  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • Gel colors (super red & royal blue)
  • 2 ½ cups unsalted butter (for Buttercream)
  • 8 cups powdered sugar (for Buttercream)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three round cake pans.
  2. Mix sugar and oil in a bowl; add eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla and sour cream.
  3. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt; combine with wet ingredients alternating with milk until smooth.
  4. Divide batter into three bowls; color two portions red and blue, leaving one white.
  5. Pour each batter into prepared pans and bake for about 20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  6. Beat cold butter for frosting until creamy; gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, heavy cream, and salt until fluffy.
  7. Assemble layers: blue on bottom, then white, topped with red. Frost sides and top.
