  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together butter, shortening, and 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in eggs and vanilla until well combined.
  3. Gradually add flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt; stir until just combined.
  4. Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan and press the dough evenly into the bottom.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the remaining sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the dough.
  6. Bake for 22–26 minutes or until lightly golden but still soft in the center.
  7. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
